Atlanta Pride

The congregations of the United Church of Christ welcome you!

Our faith is 2000 years old. Our thinking is not.
We believe in God’s continuing testament. This is why we are committed to hearing God’s ancient story anew and afresh in our lives and in the world today.

No matter where you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.
We believe in extravagant welcome. We advocate justice for all. Our congregations extend hospitality as a sign of God’s inclusive love.

Never place a period where God has placed a comma.
We believe the church’s mission is to change lives – individually, systemically and globally. We are committed to working for justice, and we believe that lives are changed thorugh global experiences and friendship.

We are not a perfect church, but we do try to be faithful.
We are known for arriving early on issues of inclusivity and justice. We were the first to ordain an African-American pastor (1785), a woman (1853), an openly gay person (1972), and the first to affirm same-gender marriage equality (2005). We believe faith requires tenderness and courage, a kind of big love that is committed to changing peoples’ lives – in our churches, but also in the world around us.

You’re invited. Join us in the United Church of Christ.
Why not give us a try? We hope you will visit an Atlanta-area UCC congregation near you.

Atlanta, GA 30306
www.vhchurch.orgVirginia-Highland Church is a progressive and inclusive community of faith in the heart of the city. This church seeks to embody the values of justice and peace for which they both worked so hard. This congregation stood up for the inclusion of women, and lesbian, gay, and transgender folks and, as a result, had to give up their place in the Southern Baptist and Georgia Baptist Conventions. Courage such as that should be honored. The heart of Virginia-Highland Church is, of course, worship. We use traditional liturgy and hymns, blended with contemporary and creative ways to encounter God, and we celebrate communion every Sunday. It is a vibrant congregation in a vibrant community, so, if you are looking for a place where you can make a difference, this may be it. We invite you to join us Sunday mornings at 11 to find out if this is where you belong!

www.decaturucc.orgDecatur United Church of Christ is a progressive, inclusive church, influenced by liberation, ecumenical, feminist, and traditional Christian theologies. As a beautifully diverse congregation, we respect and value each person’s spiritual path. We journey with one another across lines that often divide. Whether you come from a church background, a religious background other than Christianity, or no religious background at all, you are welcome here. We believe in a Still Speaking God, and in doing so we speak in contemporary ways because we affirm the responsibility of the church in each generation to make this faith it’s own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God.

www.central-ucc.orgCentral is a Christian community of faith that works to take the Jesus vision, message, and mission seriously and we struggle to interpret those teachings and apply them to our modern living. We believe that the Love of God still yearns to transform the way that we live. One of the most powerful expressions of that Love is an Extravagant Welcome. At Central, we welcome everybody: no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at Central. We seek spiritual refuge on our forested hill and are a compassionate presence in the world.

www.victoryfortheworld.orgThe Vision of the Victory Church is to address the total needs of the total person through the Good News Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our aim is to develop a full compliment of services and celebrations that speak to the spiritual and the physical; the personal and the political; the mental and the financial dimensions of human life. The foundation of our ministry rests upon Romans 8:37, which tells us that in all of the vacillations and vicissitudes of life, ‘We are more than conquerors through Christ that loved us.’
