On Saturday, August 26, 2023, the Virginia-Highland Church community and the Southeast Conference gathered in joy and gratitude to ordain Candace Rowell. Friends, family, and colleagues from Candace’s work at the VA attended and shared words and gifts.
The Virginia-Highland church family shared with Candace a custom-made stole based on her final ordination paper and beautifully designed by Will Thomas from the congregation. It featured Tarot-card-inspired designs of some key spiritual figures for Candace, including Jacob the trauma witness, Eve the questioner, and “Salty Peaches” the disruptor. They also made a framed photo of Candace with words of congratulations from everyone present.
The ceremony was followed by a reception, where folks were able to savor some delicious bites and a dessert bar that dreams are made of. The room was filled with warmth and celebration as we took turns toasting to Candace’s inspiring new chapter.
