The Southeast Conference celebrated with Rev. Bennie Liggins upon the occasion of his retirement the weekend of January 14-15. Rev. Liggins, who has served as Founding Pastor of Unity UCC in Montgomery since 2005, gathered with family, his congregation, colleagues, and friends for a banquet on Saturday and a service of worship that included a liturgy of release from pastoral duties between he and Unity UCC on Sunday morning.
Rev. Liggins served as an Associate Conference Minister of the Southeast Conference from 1998-2005, and also as Pastor of Community Congregational UCC and Interim Pastor of First Congregational Christian Church, UCC, both in Montgomery. Rev. Liggins served in the U.S. military with a distinguished career as an Air Force Chaplain. Said Conference Minister Rev. Kim Wood, “Bennie has trusted in God, relying on his faith and resilience, and stayed the course. I have no doubt that his time as an air force chaplain fostered a stick-to-itedness that only strengthened his resolve.” Congratulations Bennie and Gloria and family!
