During Holy Week, the four UCC congregations in Birmingham joined together for their annual Maundy Thursday worship. This year the service was hosted by Covenant and Pilgrim UCCs at the United Church Center.

After a wonderful dramatic reading of the scriptures, Beloved’s Pastor, Rev. Jennifer Sanders, lead off with an interactive reflection on “Communion: An Act of Community.”  Next First’s Pastor, Rev, Dorinda Broadnax, used Zoom to present her reflection on “Communion: A Means of Grace.” This was followed by Covenant’s Pastor, Rev. J R Finney II, with a reflection on “Communion: A Commitment to God and Each Other.” Finally, Pilgrim’s Pastor, Rev. Paul Eknes-Tucker, led Holy Communion with a beautiful contemporary liturgy he wrote to the tune of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
