Central Congregational United Church of Christ in Atlanta has long had a special relationship with Montclair Elementary, a Dekalb County School whose students’ families are almost all recent immigrants to the United States. The school is just a couple miles from the church, and we have provided tutoring, built picnic tables, bought uniforms, and held general workdays at the school. It has been inspiring to engage with these hardworking and determined families.

Recently, two of the volunteer tutors issued The Great Tee Shirt Challenge to the rest of Central’s members. The school was hoping to order specially designed tee shirts for the graduating 5th graders, so we asked all who were able to donate enough for a tee shirt or two. Within just a couple of days, we had received all the contributions we needed to provide a shirt for every single 5th grader. They wore them to their graduation ceremony and looked fantastic. The students, their families, and the Montclair staff were all very grateful, and we were very proud of our Central sisters and brothers.
