It is time to remember the UCC Christmas Fund for the Veterans of the Cross and Emergency Fund. The Christmas Fund has been caring for active and retired clergy and lay employees of the United Church of Christ for over 100 years, providing emergency grants, supplementation of small annuities and health premiums, and Christmas “Thank You” gift checks each December to our lower-income retirees.
In the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Church Board for Ministerial Assistance, which administers the Christmas Fund, experienced a 400% increase in requests for emergency grants over the previous year. Many requests were from pastors whose churches could not pay them because in-person worship services ceased and offerings were down. Thanks to the generosity of more than 275 donors to urgent appeals for gifts to the Christmas Fund, UCBMA was able to say “yes” to each of these requests. Also, once again this year, there is a wonderful coloring book available for FREE for download from the Pension Boards website. It is especially relevant this year, as it talks about the pandemic and quarantine and how it relates to our faith. Download the Coloring Book.
