Anticipating a Search for a New Conference Minister

Listen to this Post via Text-to-Speech Narration

At the upcoming Conference Annual Meeting (September 26), delegates will make a decision whether to begin the search for a full-time Conference Minister. Currently, the Conference is served by a half-time Transitional Conference Minister (Rev. Char Burch) and a full-time Associate Conference Minister/Administrator (Rev. Heather Fosburgh). The Board is now proposing that the Conference move to call a Full-time Conference Minister with some contracted administrative assistance. The assumption is that the Generosity Coordinator (Min. Carrole Moss) and Communications Director (Mr. Don Harris) will continue. Discussion about this will happen at the Annual Meeting and in the pre-Annual Meeting Zoom sessions (September 21 and 24).

Because of the short timeline for a Search Process between this Annual Meeting and the June 2021 Annual Meeting, the Board has made some initial plans. The Board is delighted to report that Ms. Bea Forniss has agreed to serve as the chairperson of the Search Committee. Ms. Forniss is the current moderator of First Congregational Christian UCC, Montgomery, AL and has been active in her local church and in the Conference for several years.  In addition to good organizational skills, she brings both some historical awareness and a passion for the future.

Nominations for the rest of the Search Committee will be received from September 1 – October 10. If the Annual Meeting delegates vote to proceed with the search process, the Board will then appoint the 8-9 person Search Committee to represent the diversity of the Conference (geography, race, clergy/lay, small/large church, urban/rural settings, etc.).

If you are interested in being considered for the Search Committee, please read the documents below: Search Committee Position Description, Search Committee Timeline, SEC Search Process Q&A. Then complete the Search Committee Nomination Form.

If you know someone who you think would be a good person for the Search Committee, please urge them to complete a Search Committee Nominations Form.
