On Sunday, November 10, 2019 Community Congregational United Church of Christ and all of Montgomery shared in celebrating the Mayor-elect Steven Reed. After a real southern-style breakfast, the service began and what a blessed service it was. Several of our old spirituals were performed by Trenholm State Community College Chorale. Bishop David Graves, Resident Bishop, Alabama West-Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church delivered an inspirational message of hope, love, freedom and moving forward. Love and excitement were truly in the air.
The afternoon Unity Interfaith Worship service was held at True Divine Baptist Church. The Alabama State University got us started with praise and worship. Musical selections were amazing and represented the history of the city and the struggles that have been endured in Montgomery and the deep south. Every denomination represented with a prayer or reading. The Rev. Raphael Wornock from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA was the speaker for this occasion. We were reminded of Isaiah 40:3 “There is a voice crying in the wilderness… Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Make straight in the desert a highway for our GOD.”
We continue to pray for Steven Reed and the City of Montgomery, Alabama.
