A Reflection by Kriss Choi
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe that I am singing this song, “Pass it on” here. It is a very meaningful song. When I dedicated myself for mission, this song inspired me and influenced me so deeply. As a person who grew up in a very conservative and traditional faith, which did not ordain women but diminishes woman’s voice and authority, one thing I could do vigorously for dedicating myself for ministry was to go mission or to be a pastor’s wife. So I dedicated myself and became a pastor’s wife.
However, now I am here at General Synod as an ordained minister in UCC with big support by the SEC conference. I became a chaplain for all people in the hospital abroad and became an independent ordained minister. God pushed me to move on and on! Voting as a delegate, I came to the committee, brought it back to the conference and discussed it together. Then, I expressed my belief, trust, and hope by clicking a clicker 1(yes), 2(no) or 3(abstain). I strongly believe that this liberation and freedom I am experiencing and enjoying is truly from Jesus Christ.
In GS2019, I continue to experience what true worship is, to unite and to be united. We all actively listen to God who is still speaking and keep calling us before God who challenges us to liberate ourselves and others. We re-dedicate ourselves for the just and peace by God’s strength, encourage each other and willingly receive challenges here at General Synod. Having a meal together and joining worship at the same time was a very special experience, which was experiencing the body of Christ. We are here for making peace and justice of Christ.
It is very progressive and challenging but very satisfying my hunger and thirst for justice and peace. We were opened to agree and to disagree, which showed acceptance and trust. Signing Pass it on in various languages, I experienced to be still before God. What a calming spirit moves on. Not only for resolutions on the table, but also for agreeing and agreeing with the Lord who liberated us from our own dark cell in life, I sang Pass it on from my heart. “It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and soon all those around, Can warm up in its glowing that’s how it is with God’s love. Once you’ve experienced it, you spread His love to everyone. You want to pass it on.”
