Peace Church, UCC in Clemson Seeks Ordained Pastor

Peace Church seeks to hire an ordained person for a 20 – 25-hour a week position partnering with us in continuing to develop new ways of being church with an emphasis on social justice from a progressive Christian perspective. We seek a collaborative leader who will bring new ideas, preach at least twice a month, organize different kinds of worship, and help us build community. We are open to experimentation both in styles of worship and in the pastoral role.  We are expecting that a half time job will involve a division of labor with lay leadership, and we are flexible about what that division of labor will be. We do not expect the person we hire to have all the answers, neither do we want just an administrator. We expect to negotiate the specific expectations of the partnership before making a final offer and do hope to find someone who lives nearby or will spend at least two days a week in Clemson.

Peace Church has an 11-year history as an open and affirming UCC church, has received five different grants in the last four years, and has increased our visibility tremendously, though not yet attendance at worship. Since July 2017 we are a formal community partner of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Clemson and use their space at Patrick Square for 5:00 PM Sunday worship. We also have a small but active campus ministry at Clemson University. Clemson SC is a relatively small university town half way between Atlanta and Charlotte. We expect our annual Ministry Plan (budget) to be about $53,000 and to pay combined salary and benefits of $32,000 to $35,000 annually.

Interested persons should contact both us ([email protected] or Moderator Jody Usher 404-668-0466) and Rev. Heather Bardole at the Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ (Email: [email protected], Phone: 404-719-6572).

Profiles will be reviewed as received. We expect to fill this position no earlier than January 1, 2019 and no later than June 1, 2019.
