Trusting the guidance of God, the compassion of Christ and the comfort of the Holy Spirit, the Board of Directors of the Southeast Conference (UCC) is happy to announce the selection of
Reverend Charlene (Char) Burch
Transitional Conference Minister (TCM)
Reverend Burch brings a long history of service to the United Church of Christ in the area of transitional ministry. Her following remarks reflect this service and her passion for the work the Board feels is needed at this critical time of transition in the life of our Southeast Conference.
“My sense of call to ordained ministry in the church grew gradually. It was the 1970s, I was attending seminary, but women in ministry were not common. However, affirmation from others and experience in church leadership positions encouraged me to move in this direction. For the past 36 years, my call has focused on intentional interim ministry, serving in local church and conference settings during transition times. I love this ministry! I received specialized training and took numerous workshops over the years focusing on how groups (and individuals) experience transition. This has included ways in which, as an intentional interim minister, I may most effectively assist in helping individuals and groups make the transition to a new vision that God may be placing before them and the acceptance of new pastoral leadership. I feel that God has continued to call me to this particular kind of ministry.”
Char, as she prefers to be called, will begin her tenure as TCM in the SEC on January 1, 2019. Her initial Start-UP Strategy she shared with the Board includes being a presence in every area of the Conference.
Please take the opportunity to greet her and give her constructive feedback when she is in your area.
