The Rev. Glenna Shepherd, pastor at Pleasant Hill Community Church in Crossville, Tennessee, has been named to the Piedmont College Board of Trustees.
Shepherd, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, has served at Pleasant Hill since 2015. She previously served 18 years in the ministry for congregations in Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Texas, and Oregon. Her appointment was approved by the 34-member Board of Trustees October 23.
A talented musician, she received a Bachelors and Masters of Music from the University of Tennessee in the 1970s. During the 1980s and 1990s, she served in such diverse positions as director of music ministries, emergency services coordinator, director of prison ministries for women, director of homeless ministries, and facilitator of a spiritually program all in the Atlanta area.
“Piedmont College has been proudly affiliated with Congregational churches including the United Church of Christ for more than 100 years,” said Piedmont College President James F. Mellichamp. “As a church-related college, Piedmont recognizes that faith and learning are frequently intertwined. The Rev. Shepherd has been a regular campus visitor and friend to Piedmont for years. And we will benefit from her wise counsel particularly in the areas of outreach and church relations.”
Shepherd received a Master of Divinity from Emory University Candler School of Theology in 1994 and is active in the Southeast Conference of the UCC. Piedmont is affiliated with the United Church of Christ (UCC) and the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches (NACCC).
