“Between the Bookends” a day-long workshop presented by Kirkwood UCC

Between the Bookends: A day long workshop exploring the roles we assume as we encounter the realities of our transitional nature on Earth. We will discuss and engage the dynamic perspectives we all carry through the transformational stages in our lives. As we all will face such times, either directly or with loved ones, let us explore how we might enter that space through a lens of compassion, love, grace, and dignity.

Is this a workshop about grief and bereavement?

  • No. Although we will address the reality of grief and bereavement, this is not a workshop on such, nor a counseling or group exercise to deal with heal- ing. That said, much of what will be covered is designed to help people deal with such issues as they come up in their future.

Is this workshop about end of life planning regarding such issues as living wills, power of attorney, estate planning and such?

  • No. We will touch on the importance of being aware of such things in our personal lives, the details of performing such plans is best reserved for a one-on-one with a planning professional to address your specific needs and circumstances. Information on resources for such planning will be made available.

Who is this workshop designed for?

  • Of course this is open for people of all ages and stages in life. We will be discussing the transformational nature we all experience through difficult times, especially through aging and death events we are connected to. This work comes out of observing how ill-prepared many of us are when confronted with such realities, not only for ourselves, but our loved ones. Many of the subjects may be a bit difficult for younger children to grasp, but anyone from young adult onward should be able to gain much from this material.

Is this based on any specific theology or spirituality?

  • No, this workshop deals entirely with the interaction we have with one another and how we perceive the world around us. It leans heavily on the con- cepts of awareness of the dynamic aspects life presents us.
