Two Important Bylaws Changes Proposed for Annual Meeting

The Southeast Conference will be voting on two important changes to the bylaws during Annual Meeting. Eliminated language is indicated by a strike-through; proposed is indicated in blue.

Change to the Fiscal Year

RequestChange the Fiscal Year End from December 31 to September 30.

ReasoningThe Board of Directors is recommending this change in the fiscal year for two reasons.  First is our Annual Meeting is in June which means we are six months into a budget before the Conference approves the budget. This fiscal year would allow the Conference to vote on the budget before we are using the budget. Second, this change to the fiscal year would mean most of our income would come in the First Quarter instead of the Fourth Quarter and it would help our giving look better and our cash flow through the year.

Proposed Change:

ARTICLE VII – FISCAL YEAR

The fiscal year of the Conference shall be the calendar year. The Fiscal year of the Conference shall be October 1st– September 30th

Change to the Number of Members-at-Large on the Board

RequestTo change the current number of Members-at-Large on the Board of Directors from 6 to 4.

ReasoningThe United Church of Christ has reduced the number of delegated of the SECUCC to General Synod from 8 to 6 because of a drop in SECUCC Local Church membership numbers. Due to many reasons, i.e., time, financial, the large geographic span of the SECUCC, finding the volunteers serve is at low.

Proposed Change:

ARTICLE II – ELECTIONS

3 – Terms:

a. The Officers (other than the Conference Minister) and the Board Members-at-Large shall serve terms of two years. Terms of the Moderator, Vice-Moderator and three Member-at-Large Board Positions shall expire in the even numbered years while the terms of the Secretary, Treasurer, and the other three Member-at-Large Board positions shall expire in odd numbered years. Terms of the Moderator, Vice-Moderator and two Member-at-Large Board Positions shall expire in the even numbered years while the terms of the Secretary, Treasurer, and the other two Member-at-Large Board positions shall expire in odd numbered years.
