Meeting together for the first time as the new Southeast Conference Commission on Ministry, the commission kicked off this year well with an orientation and initial meetings on July 15 and 16.
We were pleased to host Rev. Malcolm Himschoot, UCC Minister for Ministerial Transitions from our denominational headquarters in Cleveland. He shared with us about the role of a Commission on Ministry in the United Church of Christ, authorization for ministry, tools and resources for our work.
We came away with better understanding of the practices of discernment; commissioned, licensed and ordained ministry; ecclesiastical councils; privilege of call; dual standing; requirements for standing and transfer of standing; three-way and four-way covenants; communities of practice; situational support consultations; fitness reviews; ministerial profiles, trends in the vocation of ministry, and the scope of our work.
