February 28 was a day of celebration for two churches and two pastors.
Rev. Raymonda Speller was installed at Community Congregational UCC in Montgomery, Alabama at 3:00 pm. Reverend Dorinda Broadnax was the presiding pastor for the service and Rev. David K. Brawley, Lead Pastor of St. Paul Community Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY was the preacher. Ray Speller was serving at St. Paul when he was called to Montgomery. Rev. Dr. Wendy Coleman, minister at First Congregational Christian in Montgomery provided special music as did the Voices of St. Paul Choir who came down by bus to participate in the celebration. Rev. Speller and his wife Kystle, originally from Orangeburg SC, were honored at a desert reception following the service.
Rev. Bruce Schoup was installed at 5:00 pm at Peace Congregational UCC in Clemson South Carolina. Rev. Carrole Moss represented the Commission on Ministry and Rev. Steve Sterner, a member at Peace assisted in the service as did Rev. Terri Baloff, minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church where Peace shares worship space and has an office. Bruce is the son of two UCC ministers who were missionaries and worked in UCC health and human service ministries. His mother, Ann Schoup, is a resident of Uplands Village and a member at Pleasant Hill Community Church in Pleasant Hill Tennesee.
