Important Information for Participants of the UCC Non-Medicare Medical Plan

Anthem, a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, announced that it was the target of a sophisticated external cyber attack. These attackers gained unauthorized access to Anthem’s IT system and obtained personal information on current and former members such as their names, birthdays, medical IDs, social security numbers, street addresses, e-mail addresses and employment information, including income data. Based on what is known, there is no evidence that credit card or medical information, such as claims, test results or diagnostic codes, were targeted or compromised. The UCC Non-Medicare Medical Benefits Plan, which provides medical benefits for active clergy, lay employees, and their dependents, is administered by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.  In those states where Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is present, medical claims for our participants are processed through Anthem in coordination with Highmark.  Anthem does not hold enrollment information on our participants; only Highmark has that detailed information.  We are hopeful that our participants are not affected, but we await confirmation from Highmark.

Anthem has established a website with all of the current information (http://www.anthemfacts.com/). On this site is a letter to its members along with a Q&A sheet (http://www.anthemfacts.com/faq).Highmark is in close contact with Anthem to gain additional insight about this issue and learn how it might impact our members.  As soon as we obtain more detailed information, we will post the information on this website.

If you have any questions, please refer to the above Anthem website or contact the Pension Boards’ Member Services Department at 1.800.642.6543, Option 6.
