Emergence Retreat

Peace Congregational Church, UCC in Clemson, SC along with many other local faith communities and LGBTQ groups from the community will sponsor a weekend retreat November 7-9, 2014 at the incredibly beautiful Outdoor Lab in Clemson.  We are bringing together lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer, questioning folks from across the nation and hopefully many of their families for a weekend of dialogue, education, spiritual growth and healing.

The Emergence Retreat began as a dream of a few people at Peace and became a viable possibility when we received a $1000 Neighbors in Need Grant from the United Church of Christ.  Many members of our congregation and others have also given generously to make this retreat possible along with a $4000 Grant we just  received from AFFA (Alliance for Full Acceptance).  Thanks to our friends at Circular Congregational Church, UCC in Charleston for putting in a good word for us.

Open and affirming therapists, lawyers, pastors, priests, rabbis, PFlag parents will help provide leadership for this Interfaith Gathering where we will have a number of break out sessions for groups ranging from LGBTQ individuals 16-20, LGBTQ Individuals 21-39,  Parents, Siblings and Allies as well as workshops including a wide range of topics from “Learning to Tell Your Story” to “Creative Journaling” from  “Transgender 101” to “Surviving Post Traumatic Church Syndrome – just to name a few.

Our own Conference Minister, Rev. June Boutwell, will be joining us for the Clergy Panel on Saturday morning as well as representatives from many denominations and faith traditions.

The full schedule and registration form will be posted soon on the Emergence website – www.emergenceretreat.org – but please go ahead and visit that site and register your interest to attend, become a sponsoring Congregation or individual or to volunteer.  We are still raising money so that we can offer as many partial or full scholarships as possible.
The cost per person for the use of Outdoor Lab will be $200.

Watch for more to come soon.
