UCC History and Polity Courses

The purpose of this course is to explore the history, polity, theologies, and practices of the United Church of Christ and its predecessor denominations.  The course will include exploration of current ecumenical conversations, denominational identity, African-American traditions within the UCC, case studies around current issues of polity and structure, justice and witness, emerging trends within the United Church of Christ, and more.  This course will fulfill the history and polity requirement for ordination or privilege of call in the UCC.


The Winter, 2012 offering of the course “The History, Polity and Practices of the United Church of Christ”, will be a hybrid distance learning course, with regular webinars available for interaction among participants and facilitators, face to face meetings will be made available as well as on-line engagement.

2012 Winter Course: Tim Downs will lead participants through a twelve-week course on the history, polity, theologies and practices of the present UCC and its predecessor denominations.
