Open Table: A Community of Faith |
Open Table is a caring community of faith that seeks to follow in the hopeful ways of Jesus. Our commitments to peace and justice in the world and spiritual growth in our own lives are interrelated and reinforcing. Our diverse members include people unafraid of difficult questions, folks who gave up on “church” a long time ago, individuals hungering for healthy spiritual practices, thinkers who distrust literalist and excluding interpretations of the Bible, and those who hunger for a more expansive vision of God. Our worship is joyful, artful, and thoughtful, and we welcome people of all races, economic classes, cultures, religious backgrounds, ages, and sexual orientations. We are in the process of becoming a ministry of the United Church of Christ, a progressive, socially-conscious denomination new to Mobile but uniquely suited for moving the Church into the 21st century.

Praxis United Church of Christ |

At the end of 2009, Rev. Chris Waldron and his wife, Leah Waldron, moved to Atlanta and began the exciting and arduous work of planting a new church. Praxis UCC is still very much a community that is “becoming.” In their Ministry Plan, Chris and Leah dreamed of forming a community that reflects, worships, serves and creates together. They write “We strive to be open to all, bridging rifts between people and proclaiming God's radical hospitality and social justice, attentive to the care of the whole of God's creation, from humanity to the inherent beauty of the earth. Just as God has made us each of us a work of art in God's own image, with profound diversity, so do we seek to live into this artistry.” They are well on their way!

Peace Congregational Church |
The Vision and Mission Statements of Peace Congregational Church, UCC emerged from a yearning deep in the souls of eleven of the most unlikely new church start planters in the world. Just about the only thing they initially held in common was that they all lived in the Pendleton/Clemson area of South Carolina. As they began to meet for coffee and conversation in 2007, they soon realized, however, that they longed for a church that would be a sanctuary for their souls while also strengthening, empowering and inspiring them to do the work of justice in the world. Only two members of the original Launch Team had roots in the United Church of Christ tradition, yet all were drawn to this denomination whose faith was over 2000 years old while its thinking was not.

Kirkwood United Church of Christ |
In starting Kirkwood UCC three years ago, Rev. Susannah Davis took a leap of faith. As a successful and highly respected UMC pastor known for her talent in revitalizing churches, Rev. Davis had enjoyed years of serving in fulfilling, transformational ministries in the Atlanta area. Rev. Davis heard God calling her to a new adventure in church planting. If this were not enough, she then learned of “this crazy, amazing church” called the United Church of Christ. A vision was born.
