Frequently Asked Questions
If I am interested in starting a church in the Southeast Conference, who do I talk to?
The first step is to send an email to Rev. Cameron Trimble at ctrimble@secucc.org. She will send you a New Church Development Start Up Kit which will walk you through the assessment process for the SEC Conference. You may also contact her at the Conference Office - 404.607.1993.
Do you offer funding to start a church?
Yes, we do. Once you have completed the entire assessment process and the Conference NCD Ministry Team believes that you are a qualified candidate for starting a church in the Conference, we will work out the funding necessary to birth a church.
Are there any specific areas in the Conference that you are targeting to plant a new church?
Yes. We have done extensive demographic studies of certain areas around the conference which have a strong potential for welcoming a UCC congregation. Our job is to match a qualified pastor with a specific target area. We do this in collaboration with the church start pastor.
What if I don't know anything about planting a church, but I feel God leading me in that direction?
We offer numerous training courses throughout the year. If you are planting a church in the SEC, you are required to attend these courses. The courses focus upon assessment, vision development, basic leadership skills, outreach strategies, administration and self-care.
Do you have one specific church model in mind or are you open to trying new models?
We are very open to both traditional models and new models of church development. We currently have churches starting in borrowed buildings, individual's homes, storefronts, a planetarium, and coffee houses. We look to God to direct the model.
