If you are interested in starting a Comma Connection, where do you start?
The first step is to contact the Southeast Conference office in Atlanta and let us know of your interest. If you are willing to lead the group, we will connect you with the planning and training team that is developing this model. We will also help you find meeting locations and activity ideas (if needed).
At the same time, you will need to approach those people in your social network who you think might be interested in participating in a Comma Connection. Talk with them and see if they are willing to make a commitment. Ask them what they would want from the CC to make sure that this model would work in your context. Talk about possible meeting times and locations that would work well for everyone. Most importantly, talk about what basic needs they hope to meet in this fellowship.
Once you have a minimum of 12 people committed to this idea, begin nailing down the following:
- Purpose/focus of the group
- Meeting times, frequency and location
- Format of the meetings
- Leadership roles (contact SEC if you want an in-care student)
- Community service focus
- Budget for meetings and activities
The SE Conference office will work with you to find a complimentary sponsoring church. You may use the staff of the church as resources as they are available or find your own resources within the community. The relationship between your CC and the sponsoring church should be worked out on an individual basis.
If you need help developing any part of your initial plan, contact Rev. Cameron Trimble at the Conference Office.
