Rev. Ed Aponte: "Globalizing the Sacred: Latino/a Theologies, Immigration, and Biblical Justice"
Edwin Aponte, an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church, (USA), is Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean at Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he also serves as Professor of Religion and Culture. Previously he was Director of the Institute for International and Cultural Studies at North Park University in Chicago, Illinois, which included the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, the Center for Korean Studies, the Center for Africana Studies, the Center for Scandinavian Studies, and the Center for Latino Studies, each involved in many intercultural, international, and inter-religious initiatives.
Dr. Aponte’s scholarship specializes in the intersection of religious faith and culture, Hispanic/Latino religions, African American religions, North American religious history, and congregational studies. Aponte is the author of several publications including Introducing Latino/a Theologies (Orbis Books, 2001) co-authored with Miguel A. De La Torre and co-editor of A Handbook of Latina/o Theologies (Chalice Press, 2006) also with De La Torre.
Rev. Aponte is a Puerto Rican American born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He is married to Ms. Laura Jakubowski Aponte, an independent scholar of religion and development specialist, and they have one son, David S. Aponte, an artist in Philadelphia.
